Police Complete Excavation Work At Gloucester Cafe

Police excavation work at the Clean Plate Cafe in Gloucester has been completed.

And it has been confirmed no human remains or items of significance to recent investigations have been found.

The work was undertaken in a bid to establish if missing teenager Mary Bastholm might have been buried there over 50 years ago.

Assistant Chief Constable Craig Holden said, “Each area of interest identified by a team of nationally recognised experts has been methodically and meticulously investigated.

“I am now confident that Mary is not buried in the cellar of the cafe and I hope that eliminating this location will bring some comfort, however small, to her family.

“The information presented to us was significant and after careful assessment it was appropriate and proportionate that we carried out this work.”
