Church pair hit their stride

A Cirencester vicar and verger duo are getting ‘on their bikes’ to raise some much-needed cash.

On Saturday 12 September 2020, parish church  vicar Revd. Canon Graham Morris and verger John Lawrence will mount their bikes to ride around the Gloucestershire countryside visiting as many of the county’s churches and chapels of any denomination as they can, in a day.

The Ride + Stride event is organised every year by Gloucestershire Historic Churches Trust to raise money for the upkeep of these historic and iconic church buildings.  Sponsor money can be divided between the GHCT and a church of your choice.

Canon Graham and John will be raising money for Cirencester’s Parish Church of St John Baptist.

This beautiful church, often called the Cathedral of the Cotswolds, dates from the mid-1100s, and has been greatly enhanced through the centuries, especially during the early 1500s because of the wealth of the wool trade in the town at that time.

It constantly needs renovation and conservation, so the Vicar and the Verger hope you will generously sponsor them in their efforts.

Sponsor forms can be collected from the parish church in the market place in Cirencester, or online from the Parish of St John Baptist website and any donation/sponsor cheques can be made payable to Gloucestershire Historic Churches Trust and sent to the Parish Office, Corner Stone, 3 Dollar Street, Cirencester, GL7 2AJ.

There will also be a Just Giving fundraising page on the Parish Church webpage.  This is the preferred method for GHCT to receive payment if possible, please.

It’s not often we can say “On your Bike” to a Vicar and a Verger, but in this case we can say it whilst wishing them every success in their undertaking.
