Sheer Isolation – with Rosie Upton (24/10/21)

To mark the week when The Village Pump in Trowbridge re-opens for live events, we talk to local folk singer and one of the Pump’s restoration volunteers, Rosie Upton, who’s been a key player in the success of the venue for five decades. She tells us what the folk club was like in the seventies, how it was reborn nearly 20 years ago, and how the Pump is diversifying to include a wider range of musical styles, while keeping live folk and acoustic performance at its core.

Our tunes this week include Wiltshire’s very own Fly Yeti Fly, who are launching a new album in December, and Rosie picks two of her favourite folk club attendees; Sally Ironmonger and Brian Carter. In the news, we discuss the skills shortage that’s currently affecting the music industry, with many touring crews and stage productions struggling to find the right staff after the usual teams were forced to find alternative jobs during lockdown.
