Sheer Isolation – with Jess Bradley (04/07/21)

We’re joined by comic book illustrator, Jess Bradley, on this week’s Sheer Isolation.
Jon’s old classroom buddy from St. Joseph’s in Swindon has gone on to bigger and better things, including having regular strips and stories published in the Beano and Phoenix. It’s a rare moment in our podcast’s history where our guest has seen workload increase during lockdown, with more of us buying comics online to keep our kids and ourselves entertained during the pandemic.

Jess won a Blue Peter award for her last book, A Day In The Life of a Poo, a Gnu and You. We get her perspective of how publishers pick who to back, and consider the comparisons between illustrators such as herself, and grassroots musicians looking for a record deal. Jess has sequels on the way for A Day In The Life, plus a new series of comics called Super Dweeb – available later this year in all good bookshops 😉

Our music choices this week include a gorgeous new acoustic melody from Bath based Luke De-Sciscio, and Jess chooses one of her favourites which helps the creative juices flow, courtesy of UK synthwave group, Gunship.

In the news, we look at how Wiltshire’s WOMAD festival has been forced to cancel for a second year. Could the Government be doing more to give festivals a fighting chance this summer?
